Volkswagen Group: 2014 Kitzbuehel Alpine Rally [english]

The Kitzbühl Alpine Rally is regarded as one of the world’s most beautiful Oldtimer events. Over three days more than 200 classic cars, transform the Austrian Alps into an
open-air Automobile Museum And as you’d expect in Kitzbühel numerous celebrities were found driving these cars “You meet nice people. It is really exciting. You get to see great cars, sportscars as well as oldtimers. And simply the entire atmosphere is a lot of fun to be around.” Volkswagen – with its extensive brand history – is a major supporter of the Kitzbühel Rally and the carmaker has provided a large number of vintage vehicles for the event. This rally has little to do with speed
it’s more about uniform driving in tenths of a second and
that in combination with the road book it is definitely a challenge even for
extreme athlete Felix Baumgartner „There is a time card, a stopwatch and it is worse than my jump” This time ‚Strietzel’ Stuck turned over the reigns of his Golf GTI to his son Johannes. Celebrity chef Johann Lafer gives his vintage VW Bus only the best: “Is that salad oil?” „No, it’s a high quality cold-pressed olive oil. It’s the only way the car runs well.” His baby — an original 1967 T1 Samba Bus. The legendary cult VW-bus in vintage white boasts 44 horsepower. That equates to pretty easy-going on these high-altitude alpine roads… The participants must successfully complete a ‚city test’ here in the historical Tyrolean town of Rattenberg. And the numerous spectators on hand are treated to a completely unexpected spectacle. Johan Lafer seems to be in need of some help! It wasn’t the classic technology that gave him trouble. He simply ran out of gas. That figures! Driving car races without fuel. That’s great. And then its off into Tyrolean Alpine passes… It’s an extreme challenge for many of the classic cars — like on the Großglockner Hochalpenstrasse. Fourteen curves and bends await the vintage vehicles as they climb to the 2,400 meter mark. At the finish thousands of spectators line the streets and alleyways of Kitzbühel to be witness to the return on the classic
automobiles in all categories the unique alpine landscape and the charm of the city of Kitzbühel. It is a one-of-a-kind combination that makes this alpine rally the extraordinary event that it is. „We’re here primarily to show off our old cars. It’s great to get them out of the garage once in a while and show them to other people. And it’s quite enjoyable to drive by and see their smiling faces when they see these cars. That makes me very happy.” Everyone is already looking forward to the Kitzbühel Classic Car Rally in 2015!
