Olympic skater Mirai Nagasu and the U.S. Figure Skating Championships

uh noventa Detroit for the first time since 1994 the US Figure Skating Championships are next week and missing from the competition will be one of the darlings of the 2018 Winter Olympics Marina gasps ooh our Jamie Edmond sat down with the Olympic figure skater to find out what very soon the 2019 US Figure Skating Championships will happen right here on this ice at Little Caesars Arena for the first time in 11 years Marina gasps ooh will not compete in that national competition you know Mirai the first American woman to land a triple axel at the Olympics that right there is the look of a woman whose lifetime of hard work finally paid off on Olympic ice in Pyeongchang I landed it so many times in practice but to land it when it counted it was really something I’ll remember forever Nagase landed the hardest jump in figure skating the only one that takes off facing forward it’s three and a half turns and if you’re lucky you make a clean landing but even for ngoz ooh going for it means falling a lot for my labrum and because I was falling so hard on triple axel I had bone fragments kind of floating in my head it’s that injury that a sideline ngoz oh this season but that doesn’t mean she’s going to hang up her skates she coaches and mentors often recently she surprised young skaters at Campus Martius Park I think that Detroit is a growing city and I skated it was quite beautiful maybe I’ll be able to come back and and enjoy the snow in January Michigan weather is unpredictable so we can’t promise snow but we can promise perfect conditions inside LCA for the US Figure Skating Championships ngoz who says it will be bittersweet to simply watch but she’s excited for the competition last year’s champion Brady Tinnell will be defending her title the next generation it’s time for them and so I’m really excited to see how the next young thing will how how they’ll hit the stage this year she says it’s a treat to have this level of skating right here in town and encourages everyone to come down and see for yourself a lot of people think that figure skating is a lot of sparkles and glitter and and it it is it is but also we’re very athletic and and it’s a competition at the end of the day and it’s exciting to watch competition just as it is exciting to watch a football game and so you know hopefully people will go until Little Caesars arena and and watch some girls achieve their dream – other American women have landed the triple axel in competition Tonya Harding and Kimmie Meissner now we’re looking for a fourth who’s to say a woman won’t do it on this ice during the competition Jamie Edmunds local 4
