Alright we’re ready to go and do our first
kayak dive now. The boat is all packed. Everything is secured and locked down as we’ve checked
it before. So what we do now is pull the boat up to the surf line which is about intermittent
here. Some big ones, some small ones, some big waves coming in. Whatever you do just wade into the water,
wear your wet suit. Usually I don’t put the wet suit on until right now before I’m going
to get into the water, but what you do is walk into the water and then pull the boat
by the front and lift it up so it’s always perpendicular to waves as they come at you.
That way you keep control of the boat. It won’t get caught sideways, you won’t loose
control and you won’t be getting yourself knocked around the shins with a boat being
flung into you by a wave. So once you’re past there, once you’ve gotten through the waves,
you can jump on the boat and begin paddling as hard as you can just to get past that surf
line and just get out there past it as soon as you can. And again, before I go I always
make sure to take my glasses off, put them in that little dry bag in the center just
in case something can happen. It’s easy to fall, it’s easy to tip out there. It’s easy
to roll and lose stuff so better safe than sorry.
